Verified BloxSmith versions: 1.0.9 (bundled-block tests; see test evidence).
<!-- block-metadata:end -->
Purpose
Display an image supplied or generated by another block. This is a visual sink: it does not generate, edit, compress, annotate or transform images.
Input
Optional image input, ID 1, accepts image/path, file/path, message/* and text/plain. The image must arrive through this port; there is no configured image source.
Supported sources:
- Workspace-relative local paths.
- Absolute paths contained within the workspace.
- Base64-encoded PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP or SVG images.
- Loadable
http://orhttps://image URLs. data:image/...;base64,...data URIs.
Non-HTTP(S) URLs, raw hexadecimal blobs, paths outside the workspace, missing files and non-image formats fail explicitly.
Outputs and configuration
There are no business outputs, only visualization state in the runtime result. config is empty: source, zoom, dimensions, fit, alignment and theme are not persisted. Validation size limits are internal to the block.
Display states
- Empty: no image received; the run succeeds.
- Image: a validated image appears on the node card, inspector and modal.
- Error: invalid, inaccessible, unreadable, oversized or unsupported input produces a readable runtime diagnostic.
Modal
The modal declares data-block-runtime-refresh="autonomous" so polling does not replace an open viewing or zoom session. It provides zoom in/out, Fit, 100% and drag-to-pan while zoomed.
assets/js/block_modal.js owns these temporary browser interactions. They change neither the graph, block configuration nor persisted workflow state. Renaming uses the modal's generic Apply action through the GraphController.
Runtime
One Shot Simulation (centralized) and Active Runtime (zeromq_active) use the generic runtime.
For base64, data URI and URL sources, the runtime materializes an image file in the run directory within the workspace. The UI displays it through /api/project-image, without storing the complete blob in last_message, metadata, outputs or output_values.
Example
Connect an upstream exports/images/result.png value to image. The viewer validates and displays the image without adding an output to the workflow.
Compatibility policy
compatibility.json records HackInvent's verified BloxSmith versions and test evidence. Only the versions listed above have been verified, using the block-owned suites in a bundled-block test installation. This is not a certification of managed-package installation, every browser/OS, or live provider availability. Other framework versions are unverified, not necessarily incompatible.
The block-version badge follows model.json, not a published Git tag. unversioned means that no block release version is declared; no number is inferred from the framework version. The framework still uses model.json for its runtime/install contract; the tester-owned JSON does not replace it. Official integration tests run in the private bloxmith-blocs workspace. Test helpers and the proprietary framework are not bundled in this public block repository.
